Now that you’ve figured out how you’re getting to your 4th of July extravaganza, you can’t arrive empty handed. If you’re still scrambling to decide what to take to that BBQ or picnic, fret no more – the Hipmunk has you covered!

Here is an easy yet absolutely delicious recipe for a classic Apple Pie.  

Ingredients:

Crusts
1 pie crust
1 lattice pie top

Filling:
¾ cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
5 medium Granny Smith Apples (peeled, cored and chopped)
5 medium McIntosh Apples (peeled, cored and chopped)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 (16oz) jar of applesauce
2 tablespoons of butter (chopped into dime-sized pieces)

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Place pie crust in 9 in. pie pan. In a medium-sized bowl, toss apples and lemon juice. Add sugar, flour, and cinnamon to the apples and toss. Stir in applesauce and mix all ingredients. Place apple-mixture into crust-lined pan and dot the top with butter. Lastly, carefully add the lattice top.

Bake for 10 minutes at 425 degrees; then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 30-45 minutes (depends on your oven- watch carefully!) Once it is golden brown, remove it from the oven and let cool.
