Remember that remarkable lip dub by the residents of Grand Rapids, MI? Their classy response to Newsweek’s list of America’s 10 Dying Cities has generated millions of views and scores of articles and interest in Grand Rapids.

We at hipmunk were so impressed that we gathered all the resources we could to put together an insider’s travel guide for Grand Rapids. We’ve taken the agony out of finding the best hotel room and flight, but there’s still no great place to find a list of things to do in a city (especially one that isn’t one of the handful of tourist favorites).

Click here for our first take on a guide to Grand Rapids, Michigan — think of it as a list of things a local would insist you do, because we crowd-sourced it from Grand Rapidians. Between natives I met with over the weekend, local blogs, and the community on /r/Grandrapids, I’ve collected what I believe to be a solid foundation and I’m grateful for all the help.

There are plenty of great reasons to visit Grand Rapids, like so many cities across the USA and this world. We want to help you explore them all.

Free Things to Do in Paris (via @CameronCRussell)

Writer Taras Grescoe discovers “the art of being authentically Parisian—the art, that is, of tasting, touching, buying, and eating with an extra touch of finesse” in the March 2008 issue of National Geographic Traveler. And even though traipsing around pricey Paris might sound like serious damage to your wallet, not to mention your holiday joie de vivre, that’s only if you don’t know where to look (and when to go). Indulge in some of the City of Light’s sweetest luxuries—gratuit—from hidden nooks of authenticity to world-class museums and sights.

Turns out there are a lot of free things to do in Paris. We’ve already covered some of our favorite New York Hotspots and 5 Ways to Travel for Free in Cool US Cities, but leave it to National Geographic (and friend of hipmunk, Cameron Russell) to come through with this guide for this romantic European capital – click here and be sure to bookmark it for later!
