The Shortest Flight in the World

This is a Hipmunk post from Jodi Ettenberg of Legal Nomads.

Behold, the shortest flight in the world, a mere two minutes from the Isle of Westray to the Isle of Papa Westray, in the Orkney Islands.

Travel writer Mike Sowden worked on Westray for 3 seasons as an archaeologist, excavating a Norse farmstead, and when he saw this video he had this to say:

It’s a ridiculous flight and it’s over in no time, making it feel like you’ve been fired from a catapult. Legend has it that one time some tourists got on board the plane and the pilot joined them in the back, not telling them who he was. They all sat there a while in silence, then the pilot, feigning exasperation, got to his feet and said “Oh, this is ridiculous, I’LL FLY THE DAMN THING MYSELF!”, took the controls and launched the plane down the Westray runway. I bet nobody forgot *that* experience.

Run by LoganAir, the video of the flight has been making the rounds recently, but the flight has been around for much longer.
