Bubble tea is very polarizing — people either love it or hate it — but travel is all about new experiences, so we recommend you should try it! It’s a tea-based drink with small chewy balls of tapioca.
It’s originally from Taiwan, where it was created in the 1980s; it’s a bit controversial, as there are two shops claiming to be the inventors.
But you needn’t go to Taiwan to try it (that photo is from Hong Kong, actually). Just visit any Chinatown in the USA or Canada and you’re likely to find it without much trouble. Grab one of those giant straws, jam it in, and give it a big slurp.
