Lucky for Hipmunk, we got to chat with Fathom’s Editorial Director, Jeralyn Gerba about her travel experiences. Enjoy her pictures and travel insights!
Ancient ruins. Future relics. Storytelling.
2. Where and what are three of your favorite global bites?
Hong Kong dim sum
Scottish oysters on the half shell with a glass of Highland whisky
Classic NYC pizza
Central America for the lush landscapes, rugged roads, volcanic plumes, sparse population, local resourcefulness, and natural sublime.
4. What’s the best travel advice you’ve ever received?
Free-falling right before pulling the parachute.
6. If you could spend 24 hours anywhere, where would you go and what would you do?
I want to be transported to the tiny Alpine town of Vals, Switzerland. After a day hiking or skiing, I’ll swim around the Zumthor-designed thermal spring underneath Therme (a ’60s-style hotel and architectural marel) and have a nightcap at the supermod bar. I could also take a nice, sunny day in the orange grove at La Mamounia in Marrakech. It’s like wandering around in a Wes Anderson film. Just stunning.
7. Do you pre-plan your trips or let the wind take you?
No matter how spontaneous the trip, I can’t help digging around for tips, trivia, or a good book based on the destination for instant transport.
