Pho 888: A Taste of Vietnam in Chicago

Jodi Ettenberg Legal nomads

This is a Hipmunk post from Jodi Ettenberg of Legal Nomads.

After coming back from Vietnam, I was still craving some of the delicious eats from my months in the country. While visiting Chicago, friends and I went to Pho 888, a small BYOB restaurant near Argyle stop. Recommended! It was a meal full of nostalgia for me, and for new tastes for them.

What to order:

Their pho was good but branching out is better! In the photo below, clockwise:

1) Bo la lot (beef wrapped in betel nut leaves).

2) Banh xeo ( a sizzling crispy pancake with pork and shrimp)

3) Chao tom (sugar cane shrimp)

4) Banh cuon (steamed rice crepes with wood ear mushrooms and pork)

Meals aplenty at Pho 888.

Definitely worth a try!

Let’s Get Drinks in Chicago!

Chicago-hipmunk We’ll be in Chicago early next week for Steve’s keynote at MidVenturesLAUNCH and we thought it’d be a great time for our first Hipmunk meetup!

Come join us at Plymouth Grill on Monday, September 27th at 9:30pm. Granted, this is also a chance for an impromptu reddit meetup (we think there’s bacon on the menu) so come and say hi to a reddit co-founder while also meeting both hipmunk co-founders!

We’re anxious to hear what you think about the site, happy to swap stories of agonizing travel experiences, and excited to try some of the beer we’ve been told Chicago knows a thing or two about.
