The Hindenburg (whatever happened to that zeppelin?) floats past the Empire State Building on August 8th, 1936. The Art Deco spire of New York’s iconic building was designed to be a mooring mast for dirigibles. Be sure to whisper that to your fellow tourists as you ascend to the observation deck.

There’s a decidely less awesome broadcast tower on top of it now.
